Tenhi - Kauan

This is dark neofolk as good as it gets. You can hardly play this stuff any better then Tenhi do on their first full lenght album. Guitars, percusion and a lot of other different instruments paint a wonderfull picture. They're from Finland and so does their melancholic and gentle music sound. Like a walk through a wood full of snow in winter. I was totally blown away when I heard that record for the first time. I will post more stuff from Tenhi in the next days.

It's friday, time to get weird.

This is what Stephen O'Malley and Gregg Anderson did before there was any Sunn o))). This American/Norwegian alliance of unholy doom metal was founded during winter 1994-1995 together with the Norwegian exchange student Runhild Gammelsæter. The band disbanded when Runhild had to get back to Norway. There was only recorded one demo tape and this EP titled Dommedagsnatt. Oh and yeah, there were only two live gigs so far.

Joyless - Wild Songs of the End

This is a post-Forgotten Woods project started by the ex-members Olav Berland (guitar, bass, vocals) and Nylon (guitar). First two records that were put out display the old rough black metal style, on Wisdom & Arrogance they changed their style into some depressive rock with black metal influences. You could compare the sound of Joyless to Lifelover with less yelling vocals.

Genghis Tron latest album "Board Up the House" just showed everyone again why this American cybergrind band is so amazing. Shora is a post-rock band from Switzerland and after seeing them performing the entire "Malval" record I can't get enough of it. One hour of post-rock as good as it could get.

"In the time since the release of "Kosmies Slachtafval", Silvester Anfang have grown into SYLVESTER ANFANG II, a more psychedelic beast, a more tangible creature in some ways, but one that defies and confounds standard classification. Taking their cue from Krautrock communes of yore, the Flemish troubadours have expanded both ranks and minds and now present this giant new opus for general consumption. With cultish numbers swollen with new blood in the guise of Stef Anus (Kiss the Anus of a Black Cat), Father Sloow (Sloow Tapes pontiff), Bram (Ignatz) and Clay Ruby (Davenport, Burial Hex), the sound is much fuller and more reminiscent of Krautish dope jams then ever before. Ruby's vocal additions create a whole new universe for the band, rather like if Dr John had been born in a plague pit in Flanders, and the resulting tracks 'The Devil Always Shits in the Same Graves' parts 1 & 2 are masterful examples of Flemish voodoo boogie.

The new material is more hypnotic than before, and the band are sure to add new members to their fan cult as they slink across Europe like a fog in the coming months. Sure to upset parents and upstanding citizens with their occult themes and liberal European-style artwork, SYLVESTER ANFANG II reach new levels of consciousness with their mantras of goat worship and the orthodoxy of denial that states "Only analog is real". Dust off your robes, sharpen the sacrificial blade, order in some Trappist beers... Tune in, turn on, evolve."

Unearthly Trance

"Unearthly Trance is a sludge metal/doom metal trio from Long Island/Brooklyn New York, composed of guitarist-vocalist Ryan Lipynsky, bassist Jay Newman, and drummer Darren Verni. They were formed in 2000 and have released material (5 Eps and 4 full-lengths) on leading labels of the genre like Southern Lord, Rise Above Records and Relapse Records to which they are still signed today. They are also considered by critics one of the leading acts in the doom metal scene and have been touring constantly since their foundation, having shared tours with notable bands such as Sunn O))) , Pelican, Electric Wizard and Morbid Angel. Their latest album, "Electrocution" has been recently released by Relapse Records, and was produced by Sanford Parker, leader of fellow Relapse label mates and post-metal experimentalists Minsk.

Although categorised as doom metal, Unearthly Trance's music draws inspiration from other forms of extreme music as well like black metal, death metal, crust punk and drone music. Their song are usually quite long, past the five minute mark and build slowly and oppressively with pounding drums and slow, loud and distorted guitars and bass buried under thick layers of feedback. The vocals are usually very harsh under the form of painful, distorted screams, and the lyrics usually deal with themes of hate, death and the occult. Unearthly Trance also ventures into more experimental sounds from time to time like ambient and noise music, giving their music a more introspective, dark and progressive vibe."

Methadrone

This is the project name of New Jersey based multi instrumentalist and voice of Methadrone Craig Pillard. The often very noisy drone and doom soundscapes this guy is creating can be reffered to influences like Swans, Godflesh, Black Sabbath, Death in June or Laibach. The first two releases are sounding very harsh and full of noise while "Sterility" shows the softer side of Mr.Pillard.
